Introduction

In order for you to use the services and products provided by Learning for Humanity in the best and fullest way, we collect personal information about you and the devices you’re using to access our services. Learning for Humanity takes seriously our responsibility to handle your sensitive information safely. This Privacy Policy is intended to make it clear to you exactly what sort of information Learning for Humanity collects, what we use it for, and how we store and secure it.

Your personal information is your property, and you have rights regarding it. Many countries have laws governing how personal information can be collected, stored, and used. Learning for Humanity strives to comply with applicable laws in each country where we operate. Even in countries where no law formally protects your personal information, Learning for Humanity respects your right to privacy and security, and will protect your personal information as outlined in this Privacy Policy.

While we’ve tried to make this Privacy Policy as understandable as we can, if you have any further questions, or don’t understand any of the terms used, please contact us and we will do our best to make things clearer for you.

What we collect & why

When you set up an Tusitawi account with Learning for Humanity we collect personal information from you. We only collect information that is necessary for us to provide you with the services you purchased from us. We will explain here what information we collect and the reasons we collect it.

  • Personal identification information. In order to provide you with a unique identity on our services, and access to everything the service provides, we collect the information required to identify you. We also collect this information to protect you by ensuring that no-one can access your account without your permission.
  • Payment information. When you purchase access to content or services through a Tusitawi account, we collect information required to process your payment for our services.
  • Device information. When you log in to an Tusitawi account, we will collect information on the device and operating system used in order to provide you with the best user experience possible for our systems and services.
  • Usage information. When you use our services, we record information regarding what content you accessed, how you used it, and where you left off using it. We do this both to improve your user experience, for example, by allowing you to return to the same point in a book, and as part of our responsibility to our licensed content providers.
  • Information you supply. You are able to contribute content of your own creation to EcoSchool or Tusitawi. We collect information regarding content you contribute for identification and for legal reasons.

We use all information we collect to develop and improve all our services. We use information on how you use our services to improve those services.

If we want to use your information for any purpose other than the ones outlined in this Privacy Policy, we will always ask for your consent before we do so.

Where we put it

All user data for Tusitawi is stored on the Learning for Humanity cloud servers.

We may transfer information between servers at any time. Because we operate in multiple countries, this may involve transferring your information out of your home country.

We will retain your information for the minimum amount of time required for it to serve the purpose for which we collected it. For example, we will retain your Tusitawi login and billing information for as long as you maintain a Tusitawi account, but no longer.

Learning for Humanity strives to adhere to all applicable law in those countries where we operate. Under certain legal jurisdictions we are required to maintain some types of records for minimum or additional periods. Where we operate in such a country, we will retain your information for the minimum time required by law in that jurisdiction.

Learning for Humanity conforms to recognized security best practices to secure our servers against both electronic and physical forms of unauthorized access. We regularly review our security practices to ensure they are up to date with the latest developments in the field.

We take all reasonable steps to ensure that your account and all personal information remains secure. We use industry standard payment processing tools to ensure your banking information remains secure. We also conduct regular third party security audits to ensure that your account and personal data is not compromised.

Who we give it to (& why)

We will only share your personal information with any person or organization outside Learning for Humanity in one of three circumstances:

  • If you give us your consent to do so. We will always make a clear request for any outside sharing of personal information, and will not do so without your clear and explicit consent.
  • For outside processing. In certain circumstances Learning for Humanity will share your personal information with an outside organization in order to facilitate payment or other services. In these circumstances we will require that your personal information be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and with any other security measures required.
  • When legally required. We will share personal information with an outside organization if we have good reason to believe that providing such information is either:
    • Necessary to detect, prevent, or protect against any form of harm either by or against our customers and subscribers or members of the public, or
    • Necessary to investigate violations of our Terms and Conditions, or
    • Required to meet an applicable law, regulation, legal process or other enforceable request.

We may share information with partners, including advertisers or sponsors, as part of our marketing and advertising. We will never share personally-identifiable information in this way; information we share with partners will be limited to general trends regarding overall use of our services.

We will never sell your personal information.

Changes to our Privacy Policy

From time to time, Learning for Humanity may change or update this Privacy Policy. We do this both to improve the Privacy Policy, and to remain in compliance with the laws and regulations of the different countries where we operate. If we do change this Privacy Policy, we will make you aware that we have done so, and provide you with a clear summary of what we have changed, why, and what the changes mean for you. We will not reduce your rights under this Privacy Policy without your explicit consent to do so. We take very seriously our responsibility to protect your right to privacy and security.

If Learning for Humanity is ever involved in a merger, acquisition or asset sale, we will continue to protect your personal information. If we transfer control of your information, we will notify you 30 calendar days in advance. If your information becomes subject to a different Privacy Policy, we will both notify you 30 calendar days in advance, and provide you with a copy of the new Privacy Policy 30 calendar days in advance of the change.
